Isabelle Shifrin is a graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and a recent attendee of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop summer session and the Underground Workshop. “Motherland” is adapted from her novel-in-progress, Dirt Reliquary, which is set on a peppermint farm on the high desert of Southern Idaho, where she grew up. She lives with her family in Boise, Idaho. This is her first fiction publication.
