Marjorie Perloff is Florence Schott Professor of English at University of Southern California and is the author of Rhyme and Meaning in the Poetry of Yeats; The Poetic Art of Robert Lowell; Franck O’Hara, Poet Among Painters, and numerous essays on modern poetry. The essay in this issue will be part of a book tentatively entitled The Other Tradition: Towards a Post-Modern Poetry, which deals with the “poetry of the countercurrent” from Rimbaud to the present.
