Merle Brown died December 15, 1978.  He was Professor of English at the University of Iowa.  Other essays on English poetry have been published in the Iowa Review, the Southern Review, Contemporary Literature, Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, Agenda, and Boundary 2.  He was a gifted critic, teacher, and founding editor of the Iowa Review.
