Sam Pickering was born and raised in Tennessee, but he has spent the past fifty years living and teaching in New England, most of these last at the University of Connecticut. He is a member of the Fellowship of Southern Writers and has written more than thirty books, from travel books to academic studies. Many are collections of familiar essays giving his take on the world, the flesh, and plants. His latest book is The Gate in the Garden Wall, a collection of familiar essays published by MadVille.
