Rodney Jones to Read at The Missouri Review Benefit Dinner
We don’t mean to brag, but we know how to pick them. Just a few days after we invited one of our favorite poets Rodney Jones to read at our annual fundraiser at Murry’s restaurant, his most recent collection, Salvation Blues, was awarded the Kingsley Tuft Poetry Prize. He will receive $100,000 from Claremont University.
Speer and I met Rodney a couple of years ago at the Ropewalk Writer’s Conference in New Harmony, Indiana and had an instant fondness for him. Not only is he a fine poet, but he’s an entertaining storyteller and an overall neat guy. At the after-party readings he had everyone in stitches with his jokes and anecdotes.
Over the years we’ve been lucky to have had many fine readers at this event; Susan Vreeland, Wally Lamb and Bret Lott to name a few. It is an evening that our editor, staff and board looks forward to.
Join us on March 18, 2007 at 6 p.m at Murry’s Restaurant for a four-course, candlelit meal. We can promise that the wine will flow.
Tickets for the Murry’s Benefit Dinner are $50.00 and can be purchased by calling (573) 884-8851.
