From Our Soundbooth | May 20, 2019

This week on The Missouri Review’s Soundbooth Podcast, audio intern Annie Thomas interviews author José Orduña. Orduña attended Columbia, Missouri’s Unbound Book Festival in April to speak about his first book, The Weight of Shadows: A Memoir of Immigration and Displacement, published in 2016. In his memoir, he analytically narrates his experience of gaining citizenship in the United States, as he was born in Córdoba, Veracruz, and moved to Chicago at two years old. In this Q&A, Orduña speaks of his experience at Unbound, common political misconceptions surrounding his memoir, and his style of teaching creative nonfiction at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
